How to Make an Easy
Homemade Puff Pastry?
Puff pastries are our favorite,
whatever be the occasion. Their flaky layers
and rich creamy and buttery flavors make us want more of them. Most of us
believe that puff pastries can only be bought from the market and that we can’t
make them at home.
But this isn’t right. Puff
pastries can be made easily at home. Moreover, it just takes a few ingredients
and little time to prepare puff pastries
at home and that too from scratch.
What is a puff pastry?
Delicate and light, it is a flaky pastry with layers of sheets. It
is called a puff pastry due to its flaky nature. Butter is used in the dough
used for making the layers of these pastries. These layers are then frozen, and
when cold butter goes inside a hot oven, the layers separate, causing the
pastry to rise in the form of a puff.
These pastries are very buttery
and tender. But they are also flaky, and thus you need to take care while
handling and storing them. They are better stored in refrigerators.
There are several procedures for
making puff pastries. If you want to make them at home with ease, you should
follow the below-mentioned recipe.

Combine flour and salt in a big
bowl and give the mixture a good mix so that both the elements combine
properly.
Now you need cold butter. Slice
the butter into evenly sized pieces. Remember, you will need a lot of butter
slices for this. Put the butter slices into the mixture of flour and salt and
toss it properly.
Take
cold water and pour it into the mixture so that you get a uniform dough. You should not worry about the butter slices visible in
this dough. This is how the dough should be if you want to make amazing puff pastries.
You should not let the butter
chunks warm up and melt. Once the dough is ready, flatten it in a disc shape,
cover it with plastic wrap, and put it inside a freezer for around 20-30
minutes.
Now, roll the cold and stiff dough
over a surface dusted with flour. Roll it into a rectangle to start with and
then fold it like a letter. On every fold, turn it 90 degrees. Repeat this step
and fold it as many times as you want. Generally, bakers prefer folding it 4-6
times.
The
more you fold, the more flaky your pastry would be.
Cut the pastry in the size you
want and then brush it with a beaten egg. This will provide a golden sheen to
the pastry.
One of the most important things
while making puff pastries is to ensure that the pastries are frozen and the
oven is hot. This will ensure that the cold butter releases steam the moment it
goes inside the hot oven, and the beautiful flaky layers of the pastry are
formed.
Ideal oven temperature: 400
